Technical Details

C72.MUX is a high-channel MUX (multiplexer) control unit in the Avioni programmable ECU family. It is designed for centralized management of distributed sensor and actuator points on construction machinery, mobile cranes, concrete pumps, telehandlers and multi-module vehicle architectures. Thirty-four inputs and twenty-four outputs meet field infrastructure needs beyond C48-series MUX units.

Input and Output Capabilities

C72.MUX can be configured with the input and output types supported by the Avioni ECU platform. In addition to digital I/O, sensor interfaces such as 0–5 V and 0–30 V analog voltage, 0–20 mA current, frequency/RPM, resistance, quadrature encoder and duty cycle measurement, and actuator drive options such as high/low-side PWM, ratiometric voltage and frequency output can be used according to project requirements. Many field elements such as limit switches, pressure transducers, joysticks, angle/length sensors (ALX, 3X), loadcells (PL1000) and hydraulic proportional valves can be coordinated from one master ECU.

MUX Architecture and CANbus Communication

C72.MUX operates as master in multiplex systems, reducing wiring complexity and enabling centralized management of distributed I/O points across the machine. Via CANbus supporting CANopen and SAE J1939 protocols, it integrates with C24, C48 and other Avioni slave/module units, AVD HMI displays, sensor modules and third-party CAN devices. System expansion can be achieved by adding new modules.

Safety and Reliability

Like all Avioni master ECUs, C72.MUX uses a dual-microcontroller architecture for cross-checking of input and output behavior. Over-current protection, over-voltage protection, reverse polarity protection and an internal watchdog safety relay are provided as standard. Diagnostics and current feedback on all inputs and outputs help detect conditions such as wire breaks, short circuits or faulty actuators at an early stage.

The unit is designed and tested to meet EN ISO 13849-1 at performance level PL/d. It carries CE marking and has been verified against the relevant standards under EMC Directive 2014/30/EU.

Javelin Suite Integration

C72.MUX is configured and commissioned with Avioni Javelin Suite engineering software. The following operations can be performed via Javelin Suite:

• Application software upload and updates (firmware)
• I/O mapping and parameter configuration
• Safety logic and function block definition
• System calibration and functional testing
• Live CAN data monitoring and debugging
• Reading fault codes and diagnostic information
• Project file management and field configuration

With UCAN-USB or UCAN-BT adapters, Javelin Suite provides wired or wireless access in workshop and field environments.

Position in the C72 Family

C48.N16.MUX (16+16) suits mid-scale multiplex applications. C72.MUX (34+24) is the general-purpose high-channel MUX solution with more output channels than C72.AERO (32+17). C72.AERO may be preferred for elevated access platform control scenarios; C72.MUX stands out for construction machinery and crane applications requiring broader output capacity.

Typical Applications

• Mobile crane and construction machinery multiplex control systems
• Concrete pump and telehandler control panels
• Hydraulic valve, relay and warning lamp drive applications
• Central limit switch and sensor aggregation
• Multi-module CAN-based machine architectures
• Prototype development and series production commissioning
