Technical Details
UCAN-BT is an industrial-grade Bluetooth®–CAN converter designed to provide wireless access to CAN networks in field and workshop environments. It eliminates the physical cabling required by traditional USB or fixed wired adapters, offering secure and practical CAN bus access from a tablet, smartphone or laptop.
The device supports high-speed CAN communication compliant with ISO 11898-2. It is compatible with CAN 2.0A (11-bit) and CAN 2.0B (29-bit) identifier formats, with configurable bit rates from 5 kbit/s to 1 Mbit/s. The 9–32 V DC supply range allows direct operation with power sources commonly used in mobile machinery and on-vehicle equipment.
UCAN-BT supports Master and Slave modes for different deployment scenarios. A Master unit enables a single mobile device to connect directly to the CAN network; Slave units can be used to create extended wireless access points on a vehicle or machine. This is especially useful for reaching off-cab equipment, remote ECUs or CAN segments in hard-to-access areas.
Built on Bluetooth® 5.0 Low Energy, UCAN-BT delivers low-latency, stable wireless connectivity. Data transfer is protected with encrypted communication. An extended operating temperature range of -40 °C to +85 °C and IP67 dust and water protection are designed for reliable use in harsh field conditions.
Javelin Suite Integration
UCAN-BT is optimized for use with Avioni Javelin Suite software. Javelin Suite is an engineering tool for Windows and Linux, developed for communication with Avioni control systems and CAN-based equipment. Through a UCAN-BT connection, the following operations can be performed wirelessly via Javelin Suite:
• Live monitoring and logging of CAN data
• Parameter read/write and system calibration
• Firmware upload and updates to ECUs and control units
• Querying fault codes, diagnostic information and device status
• Bridging and data transfer between different CAN segments
Javelin Suite enables field service teams to perform rapid setup, testing and maintenance at the vehicle or machine. Technical staff can complete required engineering tasks without carrying cables or entering the cab.
Custom Application Development
For requirements beyond standard Javelin Suite functions, UCAN-BT provides an Android API. This API allows development of customized field applications for Android tablets or smartphones. Bluetooth® Low Energy capable devices can connect to the CAN network through the developer API for monitoring, configuration or customer-specific workflows.
Typical Applications
• Field setup of mobile cranes, aerial platforms and construction machinery
• ECU parameter adjustment and functional testing
• Wireless diagnostic access during service and maintenance
• Prototype development and validation testing
• Wireless configuration at production lines or end-of-line test stations
UCAN-BT is a complementary part of Avioni's mobile machine electronics and CANbus product family. Together with hardware, embedded software and the Javelin Suite ecosystem, it delivers an end-to-end field engineering solution.
