Technical Details
C48.N16.MUX is a mid-scale control unit in the C48 class of the Avioni MUX product family. Its balanced 16-input / 16-output layout offers an efficient solution where sensor reading and actuator driving needs are equally weighted. It is designed for distributed or centralized I/O management in aerial platforms, construction machinery, mobile cranes and CAN-based multiplex machine architectures.
Input and Output Capabilities
C48.N16.MUX can be configured with the input and output types supported by the Avioni ECU platform. In addition to digital I/O, sensor interfaces such as 0–5 V and 0–30 V analog voltage, 0–20 mA current, frequency/RPM, resistance, quadrature encoder and duty cycle measurement, and actuator drive options such as high/low-side PWM, ratiometric voltage and frequency output can be used according to project requirements. Field elements such as limit switches, pressure sensors, joystick signals and hydraulic proportional valves can be managed from a single unit.
MUX Architecture and CANbus Communication
C48.N16.MUX can operate as master or module in multiplex systems. It integrates over CANbus supporting CANopen and SAE J1939 with C24, C32.MUX, C48.N21.XOUT and other Avioni units, AVD HMI displays and third-party CAN devices. MUX architecture reduces wiring complexity and simplifies system expansion.
Safety and Reliability
Like all Avioni master ECUs, C48.N16.MUX uses a dual-microcontroller architecture for cross-checking of input and output behavior. Over-current protection, over-voltage protection, reverse polarity protection and an internal watchdog safety relay are provided as standard. Diagnostics and current feedback on all inputs and outputs help detect conditions such as wire breaks, short circuits or faulty actuators at an early stage.
The unit is designed and tested to meet EN ISO 13849-1 at performance level PL/d. It carries CE marking and has been verified against the relevant standards under EMC Directive 2014/30/EU.
Javelin Suite Integration
C48.N16.MUX is configured and commissioned with Avioni Javelin Suite engineering software. The following operations can be performed via Javelin Suite:
• Application software upload and updates (firmware)
• I/O mapping and parameter configuration
• System calibration and functional testing
• Live CAN data monitoring and debugging
• Reading fault codes and diagnostic information
• Project file management and field configuration
With UCAN-USB or UCAN-BT adapters, Javelin Suite provides wired or wireless access in workshop and field environments.
Position in the C48 Family
C24.XOUT (8+8) is the most compact programmable ECU. C48.N16.MUX (16+16) is the mid-scale MUX solution with balanced I/O ratio. C48.N21.XOUT (21+16) is preferred when more inputs are required; C48.AERO (19+9, 2× CAN) is considered for aerial work platforms. For higher channel needs, C72.MUX (34+24) or C72.AERO (32+17) provide the upgrade path.
Typical Applications
• Mid-scale aerial platform and construction machinery control systems
• Hydraulic valve and relay drive applications
• Limit switch and sensor aggregation
• CAN-based multiplex machine architectures
• Module or standalone I/O node alongside a master ECU
• Prototype development and series production commissioning
